Schools can be highly complex environments that contain an array of social and sensory stimuli that make it a potentially difficult place for children with Autism to be unless they receive the right support and learn specific skills that enable them to cope. It is important for all to recognise that although there are some common challenges experienced by children with Autism, each child experiences and reacts to the challenges they face at school in their own individual way and therefore a ‘one size fits all’ approach to supporting children with Autism is not going to be effective. However, with the correct individually assessed support, children with Autism can make friends with peers, participate in available recreational and educational activities that arise and enjoy their educational experience.
Target audience: Professionals - Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Learning Mentors, Education Welfare Officers and Home Tutors.
PEAT has been delivering Autism Intervention, Support and Training across Northern Ireland for 20 years.
Note: PEAT workshops can be replicated for in house training. This can save money in attendance fees and travel costs, as well as enabling the motivation of a larger group in one session.
